A PLAN BUILT AROUND YOU

Medication, counseling, and ongoing support

Your care begins with a conversation about your health, goals, and what has or hasn’t helped. Together, we consider whether medication is appropriate and how it can fit alongside counseling through Avalon.

Mental health medication management

We support low-to-moderate-acuity mental health needs, including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, PTSD, OCD, etc. Our prescribers assess symptoms, discuss possible benefits and side effects, and review how treatment is working over time.

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT)

MAT brings medication and counseling together to treat opioid and alcohol use disorders. We also provide individualized care for a wide range of other addictive disorders, using counseling and medication when appropriate. Treatment is tailored to each person’s needs and may include medication for co-occurring mental health conditions.

Our outpatient services may not meet every level of need. We’ll discuss the fit of our services and alternative options when appropriate.

NEW TREATMENT OPTIONS AT AVALON

Long-acting injections for opioid use disorder

Sublocade and Brixadi release buprenorphine gradually over time to help manage opioid cravings and withdrawal. For some people, an injection may replace daily buprenorphine as part of an individual treatment plan.

Sublocade

A monthly, long-acting buprenorphine injection administered by a healthcare professional.

Brixadi

A long-acting buprenorphine injection available on a weekly or monthly schedule, administered by a healthcare professional.

Injections are given at Lewiston only

Clients receiving care through Wilton may travel to Lewiston for injectable treatment. Your provider will discuss the schedule and in-person visits with you.

These options are not right for everyone. Your provider will review eligibility, benefits, risks, side effects, and other medications before recommending a plan. Keep follow-up visits and talk with your provider about any concerns.

WORKING TOGETHER

What to expect from your care

01

Start with an assessment

We’ll discuss your symptoms or substance use concerns, health history, current medications, and goals. This helps us understand the level of care and treatment options that may be appropriate.

02

Take part in counseling at Avalon

Counseling through Avalon is required alongside both general mental health medication management and MAT. Counseling gives you space to work on coping skills, patterns, and everyday challenges while your prescriber manages medication.

03

Stay connected with follow-up

Follow-up visits give you and your provider a chance to review symptoms, side effects, progress, and changing needs. Some visits can happen by telehealth; certain medications require in-person appointments.

04

Complete testing if required

Drug testing is required for MAT at least once a month, with more frequent testing when clinically indicated. This MAT testing requirement does not automatically apply to mental health medication management; your provider will explain any testing needed for your care.
